Please join us in remembrance of Dorothy’s life on June 26th, 2021 at Lima Santa Clara from 11-12 pm. The burial will be held following the service, at Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo, CA, from 2-3 pm.

 

Dorothy’s Story

Dorothy Lee Oliver (née Dew) was born on January 17th, 1926 to Rogers and Ida Dew in Ferriday, Louisiana. Dorothy was a hardworking, strong-willed, and ambitious woman. Despite growing up during segregation and given her background in agriculture, she took a rare path in pursuing a career as a registered nurse.

Dot & Ike’s Story

Dorothy moved to San Francisco in 1951.
In the city, she found freedom, fun, and friendship. Along the way, she met her lifelong friend, Virginia Duncan, who would go on to later introduce her to her future husband Isaac Oliver. Five years later they would marry in San Francisco.

Dorothy’s Family

Dorothy & Issac spent several years traveling the world, living in places like Germany, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. Upon Issac’s retirement from the Army, they decided to settle in Sunnyvale CA, where they went on to raise their children and build a life together.
